Camino del Norte walking
The Camino del Norte is one of the most beautiful routes to Santiago de Compostela, and also one of the oldest. Way back in the 10st and 11st century, when the plains of Castille were still war territory, pilgrims from Northern Europe would follow this safer route along the atlantic coast, thus avoiding also the dangerours mountains further inland, with wolves, bears and bandits.
Nowadays, the green and wild coastal landscape provides a unique and breathtaking backdrop for pilgrims looking for a spiritual journey or outdoor adventure. The mild atlantic climate allows for pilgrimages during late spring and summer when temperatures along the classic French Camino can become unbearable.
